Getting Started
What is Soulbound?
Soulbound is a pixel roguelite MMORPG with a modern touch, set in a vibrant techno-dystopian world.
Think of the following combined together:
- Beautiful pixel graphics like Chrono Trigger or Terraria
- Battle mechanics like Vampire Survivors or HoloCure
- Cozy farming, foraging, mining, crafting, and fishing like Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, or Animal Crossing
"The Island is reminiscent of the soothing tones of Secret of Mana."
"The final levels of Farpoint are pounding Iron Horde a la World of Warcraft."
"There are so many graphical and soundtrack points that the devs absolutely nailed for this genre."
And the game plays in any browser or through Activities inside Discord!
How do I play Soulbound?
Soulbound is available on both PC and mobile. You will need to Create an account on one of these platforms:
- In Discord as an Activity
Important:
- Account progression is not tied to a specific world/server. Rather, server shards are made depending on location population and per each dungeon.
- Account progression is shared as long as the same login details are entered.
- A specific account can only be logged into one location at a time, whether PC and phone. In order to play a single account on a different platform, the first needs to be logged out.
- Separate accounts, on the other hand, can log into multiple locations or games at the same time, even on the same computer.

Beginner's Bay
All new accounts start at Beginner's Bay (Tutorial Island). A mysterious man named Major will apprise you of the situation and provide basic gear.
To the west are merchants: a Gear Vendor and a Cosmetic Vendor selling simple equipment for gold. These NPCs will help familiarize you with buying and equipping new weapons and armor.
You will need to complete 2 dungeons: Bulkatron (Easy) and Scrapclaw (Medium). Each dungeon you complete will unlock achievements that grant you gold, allowing you to upgrade your gear for the challenges ahead. Once you’ve conquered both challenges, you’ll be teleported to Virelda, the starting point of your grand adventure.

Starter Tips
- Talk to the Travel Bot near the Virelda Chief's house for a quick teleport back to Beginner's Bay (Tutorial Island)
- Store items with the Virelda Guard (bank)
- Keep a health potion and +stamina food in your bag
- Sell excess items to the vendors next to any banker
User Interfaces
User interfaces (UI) are used to view certain aspects of the game that will help the player navigate the world of Soulbound. In the "Options" menu under Input, there are designated hotkeys that can be remapped for easy opening and closing of said interfaces:
Bag
The player's Bag (or inventory) shows a grid of 28 slots which the player can hold. At the top left, there are two boxes. The "blue key" displays important items, such as quest-related items or mounts. The purple box displays all currencies the player currently possesses.
It is good practice to keep a HomeDiscV3, Recall Discs to commonly traveled areas, and +Stamina food. These are essential items that will be used a lot when roaming around skilling or completing quests/contracts.
Chat
The Chat Box is an interface that has 6 main tabs to choose from:
- All - shows everything except system information (server DGS), which speaking in is only local
- Local - only localized chat
- Global - chat for everyone throughout the world
- Trade - special global chat dedicated to buying/selling items
- Guild - chat between members of a guild
- System - displays connections to the server and critical for reporting bugs
Game Menu
The Game Menu (Options) is used to change aspects of the game, like sound, graphics, inputs, or linking accounts.
Guild
The Guild menu shows the current guild the player is a part of, as well as a viewer to see other potential guilds to join. If desired to be in a guild, ask a Guild Leader or any corresponding Council members to see if eligible. Most high player-count guilds have a Discord server, but it is not necessary to join. They are mainly used for communication, raid planning, or trading.
Map
The Map is displayed at the top-right of the players' screen and can be essential in navigating the world.
There are other useful icons next to the mini-map that open interfaces:
- Mail - menu to collect rewards, items from PixelBay (auction house), or crafted materials/gear
- Events - displays current or upcoming events to take part in
- Shop - Cosmetic Shop to buy purely cosmetic gear overrides, purchased with SoulBits
- Wiki - link to the Official Wikipedia page
- Globe - (hotkey "M" by default) opens a larger version, showing icons and the lists of quests and contracts currently accepted. The player can view a full list of every quest and its rewards/requirements from here as well.
Player Profile
A Player Profile gives an overview of the players' current stats, gear, tools, cosmetic overrides, skills menu, and ability menu.
Skills
The Skill interface displays a list of every skill and its levels. Certain gear has level requirements, which is shown by hovering over said item. Completing quests, general skilling, or using specific abilities will increase levels.
Social
The Social menu has four tabs:
- Friends - able to directly "Add Friend" or see all friends that are online/offline
- Party - displays all current party members
- Activity - displays all current players in the Discord activity
- Blocked - displays a list of blocked players
Quests
Questing in Soulbound is a central feature of the game, offering opportunities for both new and experienced players to progress and learn. At the moment, questing is primarily linear, with one main chapter serving as the backbone of the story and unlocking most of the game’s core content. Alongside the main storyline, players can embark on various side quests scattered throughout the world, rewarding exploration and curiosity. Side-quests can unlock additional Abilities, provide a new item for your Toolbag, and more.
As the game evolves, questing will become more dynamic. Past updates have introduced the ability for players to engage with different quests at different times. The developer's vision is to make quests a "choose-your-own-adventure" experience, allowing players to shape their own journey.
Future updates will continue to expand the questing system, adding more quests to help you level up your skills, earn powerful gear, and unlock new abilities and features. Keep an eye out for new content as the world grows and evolves!
Starter Tips
- Talk to Virelda NPCs for introductory quests on Cooking, Chemistry, Foraging, Mining, and Farming
- Store the Dull Katana from Paul's quest at the bank for later use
- Visit Bud just south of the bank for Seeds for Farming Produce at the Homestead
- Talk to Farok for starter armor, accessories, combat potions, Stamina Food, and Recall Discs (teleports)
Don't worry if you can't afford much now - you'll earn money and come back
If you're stuck, follow the main questline. And if you don't know where to go next, there's usually an NPC in Arcadia you need to talk to.
Pioneer Guild Contracts
Talk with the Task Manager lady just east of the Virelda Guard (Bank) to learn about the Pioneer Guild Contract system. Pioneer Contracts are tasks available from the task board located in the guild. Pioneer Contracts function like quests, but with a twist: the moment you complete a task, you’ll instantly receive your reward, including:
- Gold
- Food
- Combat potions
- Upgrade materials
- Skill EXP
- Yoku energy - required to open dungeon chests
You can pick up to 5 Contracts at a time from the board.10 Pioneer Permits are granted each day. 1 Pioneer Permit = 1 Task.
A maximum of 60 Contracts may be stored at a time if the player does not return to the game at a server refresh (0:00 UTC). Tasks can be refreshed for a small amount of gold if the player wishes to receive a specific contract. Only one contract type (for example, fishing) can be chosen at a time from each Guild Master. Although, players could stack the same contract if they went to each Guild Master in Virelda, Everdune, and Farpoint.
Make sure to grab a few Pioneer Contracts as you explore the game world—completing them as you go is a great way to earn rewards while progressing naturally through the game.
TIPS
- Grab Foraging and Mining Contracts, then head north to Virelda Outskirts for plants and ores!
- Avoid Gearforging tasks. You will need gold for other things - you can forge later!
- Accept Contracts for killing bots. Bots are plentiful in the Virelda dungeon (Eastern Reach).
Other Activities
The world of Soulbound is open and full of possibilities, allowing everyone to play in their own unique way. You can explore the world at your own pace, dress up your character, work to get your skills as high as possible, or engage in trade with other players. Perhaps you’ll aim to complete all achievements or see how you measure up against others in various challenges—the choice is entirely yours.
The ultimate goal is to enjoy the game in the way that feels best to you. If you’re looking for inspiration, check out the community events section for ideas on exciting activities and opportunities to connect with other players. The adventure is yours to shape!
