Generators at level 2 and above are powered using Coal (see Getting Coal below for where to find it); a level 1 generator runs for free. Each generator maintains its own fuel queue. Once all fuel is consumed, the generator shuts off and halts any connected crafting processes.
- All generators in an apartment must be active to power any Crafting Station.
- Active generators display a purple glowing light; inactive generators appear dormant.
Generator levels
A level 1 generator runs for free. It needs no Coal at all and puts out 25 power, which is enough for the starter stations you place in the "Welcome to Virelda" tutorial. Do not upgrade it until your stations actually need more power — from level 2 upward the generator burns Coal to run.

Getting Coal
Once your generator is level 2 or higher it needs Coal to run, and new players often get stuck here. There are two ways to get it:
- Mining Copper and Iron outcrops in Virelda
- Coal is not a separate ore you have to hunt for. It drops as a bonus alongside the ore when you mine
Copper Outcrops and 
Iron Outcrops, the two starter nodes. Equip a Pickaxe (the Old Pickaxe is enough) and mine the outcrops in Virelda Outskirts (through the north exits of Virelda) or along Arcadia Approach (the north-west exit). Every ore run also fills your Coal stack, so farming Copper and Iron for Crafting keeps the generator fed at the same time. - Coal also drops as loot inside dungeons. Virelda's own dungeon, Eastern Reach, is the nearest one to a new player's apartment.
Keep a stack of Coal on you whenever you head out to mine, so a dead generator never stops a crafting session.
Fuel efficiency
Each Coal provides 0.03 hours of fuel duration when used in a generator.
How to use
To activate a generator:
- Stand next to it and interact to open its menu.
- Select the amount of Coal to add (whole units only).
- Confirm to begin powering connected stations.
Placement and access
Apartment owners can:
- Arrange generators to match Crafting Station wattage needs.
- Control access rights for guests or collaborators.
