Wiki:Money making guide/Add a method

Anyone can add a money-making method to the Money making guide. You do not need an account approval, a template, or permission — this box makes the page for you with every field already laid out.

Start a new guide

Type a short name for the method, keeping the Money making guide/ part, for example Money making guide/Mining copper nodes.

Then two more things

Fill in what you know and save. Blank fields are fine. A guide that names the activity, the skill and the items — with no rate yet — is genuinely useful: it shows up in Category:Money makers missing a rate as a job for whoever plays it next.
When you want it in the table, do the two steps below.

Step 1: wrap the data block

The skeleton gives you {{Money maker … }}. Put an onlyinclude tag on each side of it, so it looks like this:

That is what lets the master table take the numbers from your page without dragging the prose in with them. Also add | mode = {{{mode|page}}} as the first field, which is how the table asks for a row instead of a full page.

(The skeleton cannot come with those tags already in place — MediaWiki reads them as it loads the skeleton and would hand you only the part between them. This is the one piece of typing the box cannot do for you.)

Step 2: register it

Edit Template:Money making guide/list and add one line: {{:Money making guide/Your method|mode=row}}. The leading colon matters — without it MediaWiki looks for a template of that name. Until you add the line, the guide exists and reads fine but does not appear in the master table.

If you only know the total

If you know a method makes roughly 40,000 an hour but you cannot break it down into items, put that figure in profit override and leave the item slots empty. It will show in the table flagged "manual", which is an honest label rather than a criticism.

What good looks like

Money making guide/Brewing potions to sell is the clearest example: a fixed, documented price per potion, a named skill, a named vendor, and an explicit note about which half of the sum is still missing.

House rules

Estimates are welcome; invented precision is not. If you counted 180 nodes in an hour, write 180. If you are guessing, say so in the notes.
Prices belong on item value pages, not in guides. Correct the item's value page once and every guide follows.
Leave the {{Rates unverified}} banner until someone has actually played the method and checked the figures. Then remove it.
Do not delete another editor's figure because it disagrees with yours — put your number in and note the difference on the talk page. Rates genuinely vary by gear and level.
