Wiki:Style guide

From Community Wiki | Soulbound: Online
This page is an official policy index of the Soulbound Wiki. It gathers the wiki's style and editing policies in one place. Editors are expected to follow the policies it links. Discuss proposed changes on the talk page before editing a policy.

The style guide is the index to the Soulbound Wiki's editing policies. If you are new to editing, read the Manual of Style first, then return here for the specific policies on naming, linking and categorising pages.

The guiding principle behind every policy below is the Old School RuneScape Wiki model: one canonical page per subject, reached by every reasonable spelling; consistent structure so readers always know where to look; and metadata driven by templates rather than typed by hand.

Core policies

Wiki:Manual of Style
The house style for prose, titles, tense, images, categories and templates. Read this first — it is the umbrella policy the others sit under.
Wiki:Redirecting
When and how to create redirects. Every variant spelling — apostrophe, case, plural, abbreviation, old name — redirects to the one canonical page.
Wiki:Categorisation
How pages are placed in the category tree, how infoboxes categorise pages automatically, and what the hidden maintenance categories are for.
Wiki:Disambiguation
What to do when a name has more than one meaning: a hatnote for two meanings, a disambiguation page for three or more, and parenthetical qualifiers such as (quest), (NPC) and (item).

Quick reference

three or more → a disambiguation page. See Wiki:Disambiguation.
